Products

TrainReq is a fully-featured database application that runs on any reasonably modern Windows PC. (there's more about this in Q+A)
It combines a powerful and simple-to-use front end program with an industry-standard SQL database to store information.
Everything you need to run TrainReq - including the database - comes supplied as part of the installation package.
All you need to supply is the PC and the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Concepts
TrainReq deals with information relating to individuals and activities (which are assumed to be training-related activities, but could actually be any activities.)
At its simplest, TrainReq records which individuals completed which activities, and when.
You can also define requirements, which say who should do which activity, and by when or how often.
These requirements can be defined for whole groups as well as for individuals.
TrainReq uses this information to calculate automatically the status of each individual for each activity.
This calculation can be forward-dated to help with planning or back-dated to view past performance.
In all cases the information can be presented as summary or detail, together with statistical analysis.

Editions
Both TrainReq and (when it arrives) TrainReq Plus will be available in two editions: Personal and Network.
The different editions are there to support different roles as summarised below:
Personal Edition
single user

The functionality of the software is identical in the two editions.
Obviously there is more involved in setting up the Network Edition than the Personal Edition.
The Personal Edition installs itself automatically from the download file. All you have to do is tell the installation package to get on with it, and your TrainReq system will be up and running for you within a few minutes.
Installing the Network Edition is likely to require some knowledge of the PC network on which it is to be installed. The less technically confident user may prefer to seek assistance with this.
